How to make Falafel at home

  2. Add the onion, parsley, cilantro, garlic, cumin, coriander, salt, pepper, and baking soda to the food processor. Pulse until the mixture is well combined but still has some texture.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a bowl and stir in the flour. The mixture should be able to hold its shape when formed into balls.
  4. Heat about 1 inch of oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat. Test the oil temperature by dropping a small ball of the falafel mixture into the oil - it should sizzle and bubble immediately.
  5. Using a small ice cream scoop or spoon, form the falafel mixture into balls or patties about the size of a ping pong ball.
  6. Gently drop the falafel into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  7. Remove the falafel from the oil with a slotted spoon and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
  8. Serve the falafel hot with pita bread, hummus, tahini sauce, and your choice of toppings such as tomatoes, cucumbers, and pickled vegetables.
