Paneer Bhurji Recipe

Paneer Bhurji is a popular Indian vegetarian dish made with crumbled paneer (Indian cottage cheese) cooked with onions, tomatoes, spices, and herbs. The dish is typically made by first sautéing onions and green chilies in oil or ghee, followed by adding diced tomatoes and spices like cumin, coriander, turmeric, red chili powder, and garam masala. Crumbled paneer is then added to the mixture and cooked until the paneer is heated through and coated in the flavorful sauce. Finally, chopped cilantro is added for garnish. Paneer Bhurji is often served with chapati or paratha (Indian flatbreads) and can be enjoyed as a breakfast or main dish. It is a flavorful and protein-rich dish popular in many regions of India.

Ingredients:

Here's a list of ingredients you'll need to make paneer bhurji:

  • 250 grams of paneer (cottage cheese), crumbled
  • 2 tablespoons oil or ghee
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves (cilantro) for garnishing

Note: The quantities can be adjusted as per your taste preferences.

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they start spluttering, add onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.

  2. Add ginger and garlic paste and sauté for a minute.

  3. Add chopped tomatoes, green chilies, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well and cook until the tomatoes are soft and mushy.

  4. Add crumbled paneer to the pan and mix well. Cook for 3-4 minutes on low heat.

  5. Garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with chapatis, parathas or bread.

Your paneer bhurji is now ready to be enjoyed!

Suggestion:

  1. Use fresh paneer: Always use fresh paneer for making paneer bhurji. If the paneer is too old or has gone bad, it may affect the taste and texture of the dish.

  2. Use a non-stick pan: Paneer bhurji tends to stick to the bottom of the pan, so it is recommended to use a non-stick pan to avoid this. If you don't have a non-stick pan, make sure to use a well-seasoned cast iron pan or a heavy-bottomed pan.

  3. Don't overcook the paneer: Paneer is a delicate ingredient that can become tough and rubbery if overcooked. It's important to cook the paneer just until it is heated through and has absorbed the flavors of the spices.

  4. Use the right spices: Paneer bhurji is typically made with a blend of spices like cumin, coriander, turmeric, and garam masala. Make sure to use the right amounts of each spice to achieve the perfect flavor.

  5. Adjust seasoning to taste: Everyone's taste preferences are different, so it's important to adjust the seasoning of your paneer bhurji to your liking. Taste the dish as you go along and add more salt, pepper, or spices as needed.

  6. Serve hot: Paneer bhurji tastes best when served hot, so make sure to serve it immediately after cooking.
